About Me

Want to Know My Journey to Why D.I.P.ism?

Have you ever wondered how a deep connection to death and grief begins?

For me, it started from an early age, where loss was woven into my life in ways that shaped my path forward.

"To say I was born into death work is not an exaggeration. I followed a sibling who had died and was raised with an awareness of death from a young age. I was never taught to fear it, but rather to accept it as a part of life. However, I didn’t have the answers for my curious mind until I started to experience death later in life."

Hey, I'm Laura!

To say I was born into death work is no exaggeration. I followed a sibling who had died and grew up with an awareness of death from an early age. I was never taught to fear it, but to accept it as a part of life. However, the answers to my curiosity didn’t come until I experienced death first-hand later in life.

In 2015, my aunt passed away, and I had the privilege of sitting with her through the night. That night remains one of the most profound of my life. The calm and serenity in the room were filled with a powerful energy that captivated me. Though she experienced moments of agitation, she remained peaceful. The next morning, she looked me in the eyes, as if she knew I had been sending her healing energy, preparing her for her transition.

This experience made me realise a crucial aspect of death work had been neglected by the descendants of Africa. I sought training to offer support from terminal diagnosis through the grief process. While I became a qualified Clinical Hypnotherapist, death doula, and funeral celebrant, I quickly found that the available training was inadequate, and the field was not welcoming to people like me. So, I created my own path.

D.I.P.ism (Death In Practice) was born, along with FACFO

(Federation of African & Caribbean Funeral Operatives), blending my passion for social and spiritual healing in a world that had long shut the door on authentic approaches to death. I realised the death experience had been colonised, so I created my books and healing model to bring awareness and healing to everyone as they face death, life, and spirit.

"A Much-Needed Resource for Grief and Bereavement"

""Hi Laura, I read your books and wish that when I was working for the council, something like that had been available. I went on courses for death and bereavement, but they were not very helpful. Keep up the good work, my love!

Your books give people the guidelines they need to come to terms with what they are dealing with, and sometimes, that’s all we need."
