About D.I.P.ism

Compassionate Support, Mindful Impact

D.I.P.ism, or Death in Practice, represents an integrative, holistic approach designed to address the comprehensive needs of individuals approaching the end of their lives, their families, and those grieving a loss. This philosophy recognises the profound impact that death and dying exert on various aspects of human life—social, spiritual, emotional, and practical. By acknowledging these dimensions, D.I.P.ism aims to provide compassionate support that encompasses the entire spectrum of end-of-life experiences through one-to-one support, training, and workshops.

Meet Laura D Pusey

Hi, I’m Laura.

I’m a Death Care Practitioner and the CEO and founder of D.I.P.ism (Death in Practice), where I focus on improving communication about death within families, groups, and organisations. I’ve also authored My Life’s Tapestry (2021), a workbook designed to make end-of-life planning easier for individuals, families, and caregivers. I truly believe that advance planning helps to reduce fear and suffering for everyone involved.

In addition to leading D.I.P.ism, I founded the Federation of African & Caribbean Funeral Operatives (FACFO), which provides culturally specific end-of-life services. I’m proud of my academic work, including Living with the Mantle of the Strong Black Woman and Tapestries of Grief (2021), which explores society’s perceptions of grief and offers a framework for group discussions.

With a background as a practitioner, CEO, and community leader in funeral care and grief therapy, I am dedicated to serving African, British, and Caribbean communities. I’m also a passionate public speaker, using my platform to educate and bring comfort around death-related topics—because, after all, everyone has a death story.
